     Session 1:    The Contemplative Phase of the Spiritual Exercises

‘Ignatius teaches a simple beholding of God’spresence in prayer’  Franz Jalics S.J.

Deepening into the mystery of the Exercises, this offering explores Ignatius’ goal of a ‘simple beholding of God,’ especially in the ‘Contemplatio’ and ‘The Third Method of Prayer,’ where a deeper phase emerges and is described by Jalics as ‘The Contemplative Phase of the Spiritual Exercises.’

My proposed commentary on the Exercises and Scripture aims to makesound scholarship accessible in order to foster a synthesis of spirituality and biblical hope to call the Church to be forward-looking, as God ahead, calls us into a new unfinished, evolving future.

Come and hear about resources relating to IgnatianSpirituality which others are using and finding helpful. The resources shared may include books, websites, apps,podcasts or videos. Everyone present will have the opportunity to share resources – whether recent discoveries or resources that are ‘tried and true’

Using the metaphor of the process of opening a Whare, ‘whakatuwhera Whare’,

we will reflect with a broad outline of spiritual exercise and how we can bring

awareness of God’s presence.
